Hairspray at the Kennedy Center

Yesterday I went to see the wonderful Hairspray at the Kennedy Center with my bf from college who is in town from San Fran. What a great show - the music, the dancing, the bright colors, the storyline. I loved everything about it. I saw the John Waters movie with Ricki Lake years ago and thought it was great. We had awesome seats on the orchestra level. I must get this soundtrack. Tracy's mother stole the show, of course.

It is so great to see my bf and her family! I haven't seen her in two years, back when she was pregnant so this was the first time I got to meet her little son in person. What a cutie. I have seen like a million pictures of him, but it was so surreal meeting him in real life! We email and talk on the phone a lot. We went to college together (this month is turning into College Reunion - next weekend too), and we were freshman roommates. I remember us crying together as our parents drove away after leaving us at college. Back in the day, right?

Lots of shared history and good memories. I miss her a lot, and I wish she still loved around here. Old friendships are great - so easy to be together and really talk about things that matter. We were talking about how tough it can be sometimes to make new friends. We've been out of college for a long time, and we were reflecting on the friendships we have made since then. We have all definitely made new friends wherever we all live, but it's not easy to meet new people and get to know them as well and become really close. Know what I mean? I wonder why that is. I don't know - maybe I don't try hard enough to get out there and meet new people and bond. Gosh, it almost sounds like getting out there in the dating market, doesn't it? Sometimes though I really long for good 'ole girl time.

I know I have said it before, but come on out to NoMoCo Stitch and Bitch. We're good people and potential friends :) Also this Tuesday evening some of us will be at the demonstration booth at the MontCo Fair. Come join us.
Another thought is to try and start a book club through meet-up.
