Knitting in the Round - An Umbilical Cord Hat

I attempted my first knitting in the round project this past week with the Umbilical Cord hat from Stitch N Bitch modeled on the left by Mr. Bear. Yahoo! I used Plymouth Encore Worsted for it, and I really like how it turned out with the different colors; it made for a really interesting pattern with the variegated yarn.

Can I tell you how scared I was to be knitting in the round? And then to move all of the stitches to the double pointed needles and to start decreasing? And then to learn how to do I-Cord? A lot of new skills for me in this little hat. It was a lot of fun, and it was a really quick knit! I still have a whole bunch of yarn left so I am going to make a few more hats. I like seeing results, and this hat was done in a flash.

This hat was a good break from my current project, the Big Bad Baby Blanket, also from Stitch N Bitch. I am only on skein 2, and I have two more skeins to go. It's taking me forever! I do like how it is turning out though. It's a very nice yellow - good for either gender. Three friends are pregnant and due in the fall-winter! At first, I was feeling real ambitious, thinking, I will knit blankets for everyone, but I am back-pedaling now. I think I will give them all umbilical cord hats.
